New ‘Fortnite’ Summit Striker Starter Pack Is Live, Here’s What’s In It

Time for another starter pack in Fortnite: Battle Royale, that occasional tradition that gives us a rare discount on the not-so-cheap V-bucks and skins that we all desire so badly. For the last little while, we’ve been working with the Ace starter pack, a lady with a mask that feels loosely tied to the heist-themed “High Stakes” event from approximately a million years ago. If you haven’t bought it yet you probably should now, because it seems to be leaving today in favor of the new pack: Summit Striker.

Summit Striker went live early over in places like New Zealand and continues to do so as the Earth continues its long, slow rotation through this particularly portentous day where world order is concerned. I can see it right now in the Epic store, where it currently sits alongside the Ace pack. We assume that Ace will be leaving soon, because we usually only see one starter pack at any given moment.

Like other starter packs, Summit Striker seems to cost $4.99 for a skin, back bling and 600 v-bucks. If you’re the sort that regularly purchases V-bucks it’s a no-brainer: the V-bucks themselves come at a slight discount, and you get some cosmetics for your troubles. If you’re just starting out, it’s a great way to foster an unhealthy addiction to virtual dress-up.

The cosmetics themselves are solid: we don’t see any of the more baroque designs that we get with epic-tier skins, but it’s a solid little piece from Fortnite’s slightly more grounded side. The theme is mountaineering, with little ski goggles, a face mask and hiking boots to protect your player from the weather. The back bling, too, is straight up: we’ve had a whole lot of backpacks with walkie-talkies in them before, but here’s another.

This might start looking a whole lot more appropriate if the map gets covered in snow for Season 7, which seems like a decent bet at this point, even if Fortnite is unpredictable as all get out. It’s an exciting moment for skins, as we’re also getting a whole suite of licensed NFL jerseys coming our way on Friday.
