A Giant Crack Just Opened Up In The Ground, Here’s Where To Find It

We’ve known that an earthquake was going to come to Fortnite: Battle Royale for a while now, but things are getting going in a serious way now that patch 7.40 is here. There have been rumors that this might be the most cataclysmic event to hit the map so far, and early developments would seem to support that theory. A giant crack just opened up in the map, and there are likely more to come.

If you want to go see the crack, just go a bit southwest of Tomato Temple. It appeared in a kind of small one-time event, similar to the way the Cube would move around the map back in Season 5. It’s been suggested that Tomato Temple could hold the key to the Prisoner Skin stage 4, so this would stack: presumably, some sort of fiery expanse will show up in the general area, and the Prisoner will visit to gain his final infusion of fire needed to explode the map.

We assume that there will be more cracks opening up all over the map as the season continues: we have exactly two weeks before the start of Season 8, and Epic usually likes to keep the craziness going right up to the last minute before the start of the next season.

So keep an eye on the ground over the next few days, and check back in on this one as things develop. Fire is definitely involved with this event in some way, shape or form, whether that’s a volcano or just veins of burning hot magma exposed beneath the earth.

Epic made the biggest addition to its map yet with Season 7, adding in a major new ice biome in the southwest. But the developer also likes to up the ante with each season, presumably indefinitely. It’s not out of the question that the map could see a more complete rewrite, with major areas like Tilted Towers and Wailing Woods wiped out by the fire. I keep wanting the theme of the season to play out over the whole map and not just a single portion, so maybe I’ll get my wish this time around.
