‘Fortnite’ Is Getting A Legendary New ‘Scoped Revolver’ With Patch 7.20

There’s another weapon coming to Fortnite: Battle Royale, and we can firmly file this one under “not-ridiculous”. It’s not a mythical world-ending sword or balloons you strap onto your back, it’s a revolver with a scope on it. Not the biggest thing in the world, but potentially quite powerful: the biggest sell with the scoped revolver will be perfect accuracy, which allows players to line up headshots with the assurance that they won’t miss due to the random action of weapon bloom. Perfect accuracy currently only applies to scoped weapons and the hunting rifle, or I suppose thrown weapons if you want to get technical about things. The scoped revolver will likely hit the game either Tuesday or Wednesday.

Fortnite currently seems to have a sort of weird policy where there can only be one revolver-themed weapon in the game at any given moment. The first was the straight-up revolver, a slow-firing but relatively high-powered weapon that was never all that popular for either high or low-level play. After that was vaulted we got the six-shooter, a western-themed weapon designed to pop off 6 quick shots from the hip. The six-shooter headed to the vault last week, and now we’re getting the scoped revolver.

Regardless, the major questions surrounding the scoped revolver are going to have to do with damage, firing rate and draw speed. I imagine this as a sort of quicker variation on the sniper rifle class, not unlike the old classic pistol from the original Halo. Theoretically, you can pull it out and get a shot off quicker than you can a bolt-action sniper rifle, and get off consecutive shots a little quicker than the hunting rifle. That will mean it won’t be able to be as powerful, and I have to imagine that the team will make it incapable of taking out a shielded opponent, even with a headshot.

We’ll see, soon. Sniper Rifles are already high-skill weapons, and good players can overcome their shortcomings by the innate ability to pull off perfect shots near-instantaneously. Something a bit speedier would give the rest of us the ability to look down the scope a little more often, though it would also give said players a chance to pull off even more instantaneous kills.
